I realised that I do not need to provide titles to journal entries. Thanks to this I am able to publish even very short thoughts because titles oblige to structure and composition.
As a consequence of this change I should not use titles of posts in other parts of the website. Jekyll generator automatically derives missing titles from file names. I get rid of the title references with pleasure.
Removal of titles from home pages is not trivial.
The description of minima theme indicates existence of a show_excerpts variable which adds post excerpts to the list of posts in a home page.
Inspired by this information I find the home page layout of this theme.
Though it turns out to be impossible to remove the post titles without modifying the theme code, I try substituting title variable with date variable.
I forgot that YAML language does not allow variable substitution, so this attempt is futile.
A solution nearest to the expected result is to give posts a '' title, which results in an empty title.
Another consequence is impossibility of clicking posts on a home page.
Luckily the collection page layout allows more freedom, so I will be able to restore this function in this page.
Setting aside confusion caused by editing a wrong file I am easily able to set dates as links to the posts. Enabling post excerpts on home pages is not trivial because I use an outdated version of the theme. In the meantime the option switch was moved, so I had to identify its previous position.
